I don’t have a picture related to this post so please enjoy this set of stairs from a day trip to Sausalito.
I participated in another escape room game recently to celebrate a friend’s birthday. This was Simon’s and my fourth escape room and I am very disappointed to report that we did not escape. Simon and I are currently 0 for 4… But in our defense, the success rate for this particular room was 25%. So while we may not great at problem solving, we’re not that terrible at it. Or so I tell myself. Haha.
This time, we tried the Sorcerer’s Sanctum from Omescape. We weren’t even close to escaping this time. I think we just got too excited whenever we opened a new room, so we had a puzzle left in 2 of the previous rooms that we totally forgot about. Oh well. Simon and I need to try one that’s designed just for couples so we can see if it’s our problem-solving abilities or if it’s the group that we go with.
For anyone who doesn’t know what an escape room is, it’s where you’re locked in a room (or series of rooms) and you have to solve puzzles in order to get out. And if you’re never done an escape room, I highly recommend it. Not only is it a great way to challenge your brain for a little while, it’s also fun to see how you work with certain people.
I’ve only tried 2 different companies: Beyond Escape and Omescape. If you’re in the San Francisco Bay Area (or New York), I highly recommend Omescape. It is slightly more expensive but you get what you pay for. Compared to Beyond Escape, it’s a higher budget so the room(s) are nicer and technology is better. I’ve done 3 of the Omescape games and they’ve all had multiple rooms that you unlock and fancier technology.
That’s not to say that Beyond Escape isn’t worth checking out though. It’s cheaper and we were able to get it through a Living Social deal. For the one room that we tried, they had 2 actors/staff in the room with you. They took notes of what we did and at the end, read out the major contribution(s) of each person. This was probably my favorite part from this escape room.
Have you done an escape room before? If so, did you like it? If not, do you think you’ll try one in the future.
